You know how you show off a coin to someone, or you go to a shop or something and someone says something like "That's fake" or "That's not worth it"..yet they have no idea about coins?

So...what do people that don't know much about coins say that gets on your nerves?

It's not the ones that know nothing that bother me, it's the "professionals" that so quickly down-talk a coin that gets my toad.

Giving an opinion on a coin in hand without the ness skill or knowledge to back it up with facts. (i.e. thats not a AU its VF, it just is. )

When they ask immediately "What's it worth or What did you pay for that?" rather than discuss the design, condition, or history of the coin.

The thing that really angered me when I was growing up was when I went to a coin dealer and I was treated like I didn't know anything because I was young...this being when I was in my teens. There are a couple dealers I won't buy from because they treated me poorly when I was younger.

I am not a fount of wisdom, but important things I have learned as I aged,

    1. People can't annoy you, only you can let yourself be annoyed. Imagine them nude and laugh your head off ( internally or externally).

    2. As popularized but very true, with great power comes great responsibility. You accumulate power ( expertise) as you progress in life or numismatics and the use of that power should be to educate and praise progress rather than annoy or destroy a fledgling enthusiasm. You can explain to a newbie why a coin is overgraded and overpriced without saying it is a trash coin and they are an idiot.

    3. If you are a male, you can sell the dog, pawn your significant other's diary, or buy her a router for her birthday, but don't leave the toilet seat up or you are TOAST.

I don't find any comments annoying. I use them to determine whether I believe a person is incompetent, dishonest or worth listening to. If they kept their mouth shut, I'd never know.

Oh so right Jim...take it from a guy who lives in a house with a wife and four daughters (LOL).

The one thing that bugs me somewhat is when folks ask me if I collect the "colorized" state quarters.

Well - none of the comments from non-collectors bother me. The whole key to collecting is to collect what you like and what excites you - not others. So there is really not a comment that bugs me.

I'm kind of with Mark, comments from most people regarding the hobby really don't bother. My wife is perhaps the most annoying person for me when it comes to coins. She's forever telling me its a waste of money and how stupid collecting coins is. I figure, what better thing to collect but loads of cash. It's like a savings account I can play with!

both are equally annoying to me.

Had a guy at a garge sale this weekend tell me war nickels were 100% silver. I said I was pretty sure they were only about 30. No, they are 100% silver, he said. I like talking about coins, so I let it go.Then he tried to enlighten me for about a half an hour. 1943 copper cents 60,000 minted. Tons of steel 1943 cents dumped into the ocean 300 miles offshore. This was kind of annoying, but made me second guess myself. None of this is true, right?

Copy and paste. Wikipedia.com. Say someone was talking about ASE's and they did this. The American Silver Eagle is the official silver bullion coin of the United States. It was first released by the United States Mint on November 24, 1986. It is struck only in the 1 troy oz denomination which has a nominal face value of one dollar and is guaranteed to contain one troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver.
Thats what im talking about. :D

Read down to the 1943 cent part. This where he got the story...
