Guess I'm voting halves as that is the best monetary gain. Pennies make sense as you find a lot of wheats pretty easily but they don't excite me like a nice thick silver half dollar. :)

Pennies. Not everyone has a thousand dollars to be looking for to 40%. Plus, a lot of people cant go to five banks for halves. Like everyone else said before, quarters stink. Dimes are not the best. Nickels is a close second since I've found a buffalo, a war nickel, and 40's and 50's.

Nickels and Halves. Halves either suck or have a really awesome batch for me. Nickels have about a 1 silver per 1200 coins. Dimes have the best amount of silver for their volume. I like searching nickels the most though, because you find stuff that you aren't really expecting to find - key dates, war nickels, buffalos, proofs, weird foreign stuff, etc and because I can search as many as I want without running out of money!

    you have to order halves

If you have $500 to spare you can order a box of halves from your bank since many banks don't have them or order them. I did this once, waited two weeks to be skunked. There are tons of copper pennies and some wheats in circulation. I also find Canadian pennies that are 98% copper and a dime, so 9 pennies I kept were free.

as crazy as it seems, I've been doing well with quarters, but not for silver. been finding lower mintage, occasional higher graded older dates, not bad finds. Just doing 5 rolls a week, so I'm a little fish. Still having fun though.
    happy hunting!

Per box, I'd say Pennies. I'm only talking keepers.

Here is what I usually keep per denomination:
    Pennies: wheaties, indians, foreign, counterstamps
Nickels: anything pre-Jefferson, low mint Jeffersons (under 50M), War Nickels
Dimes: anything silver, or foreign, or proof
Quarters: anything silver, foreign, or proof
Halves, anything silver, proofs, foreign, 1987

So as far as 'keepers' it looks like I'd have to say Pennies. In order of keepers.

Coming up on the end of my 2nd month of CRH. I've only been working with dimes and halves. I think I've had decent luck with both, but I turned up the heat on dimes this weekend with nice results.

I'm getting interested in starting on nickels sometime soon and will have to search the forums for suggestions on what to look for and keep besides wars and buffs.

Cents by far and away. Although if you can get OBW nickels 60's and earlier there are some toned coins and rpm/overdate possibilities. I have lately gotten lucky with halves with some VF/XF/AU 82 P&D and 83 P&D's but no silver anymore. Too many people are aware (and see dollar signs) and even the little old ladies aren't dumping to banks anymore...lol.
