I have about $100 to spend on a coin. I was thinking about a 1/4 Indian Head Eagle like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/1928-2-5-INDIAN-HEAD-GOLD-QUARTER-EAGLE-BU-MS-buySAFE_W0QQitemZ160137566134QQihZ006QQcategoryZ39469QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting Although I know that Ebay isn't the most reliable source for good quality coins. What would you recommend?
Looks like that is already over your price range. Looks like a beautiful coin to me, but I don't know anything about the gold Eagles. Good luck! swick
anytime that I have to scroll that far down the list to find the darn coin, I'm gonna punt. How about a nice certified 1909 S Lincoln? Or a decent 1914 S Barber quarter? Or any of a selection of nice semi-key dates, like the 1908 S Indian Head cent. Too many fake gold coins for my taste.
I've never seen such a long description before. I'd be too nervous about missing something in the fine print to bid on this.
Jeez, how long did it take them to type all that? :computer: It's also a big turn off to me when an auction or website goes on for days like that. Especially in ridiculous ever changing fonts.
Man, I've read Steven King novels that took less time to read. I think I'd stay away from that auction, too much hype. Are you just starting out collecting? It would be a good idea to find yourself a local coin dealer and purchase a real nice semi-key coin as the others have said. If you're new to our hobby and are not really sure what to buy, Ebay isnt a good place to start. Depending on what coins you're interested in, obviously gold coins, the best investment you could possibly make with your $100 is buy a book that specializes in the coins you want to collect. Just my opinion.
I would strongly suggest you purchase a QE that has been certified, or from a dealer who stands behind their raw coins (like RCNH), and not purchasing it raw on eBay. Indian QEs are widely counterfeited. That said, I think circulated Indian QEs are a very good value, in addition to being one of the most beautiful designed US coins...Mike
if you look they go for $240 and up http://search-completed.ebay.com/se...action=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search
