I found in my grandfather's effects a set of cuff links, made from a coin that says "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" & "E PLURBUS UNUM" around the edge, with a "V" set inside curved woven llaurel eaves. The back is obscured by the stud attachement, but stars around inside the coin edge are visible, with a date of 1888. The coin appears to be gold.
Does any one recognize this coin, Is it a US coin or some sort of commemorative piece.

I think it's this coin - Click Here just a tad different than the one posted. The reason I say that is because he says the coin appears to be gold. In other words I think they may be racketeer nickels made into cufflinks.
