Im not suggesting this is an error theres just a rough surface appearance, this 1937 GB penny is in pretty good condition overall for its age, in fact the detail is better than some other 1937 examples I have and the weights close to the correct weight. so my question is any ideas what has caused the surface irregularity please ?
    Iphone pics again ! apologies

One of mine looks pretty similar and I guess it's caused by to much time in the ground. :yack:

Maybe exposure to a fire? That blackness looks like soot.
