What causes discoloration?

  1. Hello folks. Can you tell me what causes these discolorations, darkening, or whatever you would call it? I hope this is the correct forum. Thank you.

    The 1990 looks like it might have been buried for a long time and then dug up by someone or found laying on the ground.

  6. TY everyone. My name tells you all u need to know. Sorry. Was given this 'coin collection' full of silver quarters (pre-1965), some halfs and some mercury dimes, all silver, then I had these oddballs, I couldn't figure why she had them in here, must have been some sentimental thing. Maybe a niece or nephew found them and thought "auntie collects old coins". Just making sure before they go to recycle. Appreciate the help with what are novice questions. Most of the coins are clear. U should se the collection of badges/fob's. Great googly moogly! I've got my work cut out for me.
