What causes a dime to look like this

    Hello everyone,

    Just curious what causes a dime to look like this, found some interesting looking dimes and would like to post a few on this site, but was told to post seperate.

    Yeah, looks like some type of chemical(s) did that. But then again, it also reminds me of what coins looked like after we hit them with a sandblaster. When I was a kid, I had a friend whose dad had a sandblaster. Unattended kids & a full sandblaster, what possibly could go wrong? Coins and wasps didn't stand a chance.

    An acid bath will do that. At least it’s silver.

    I think you coin has been whizzed clean on a bench mounted wire wheel.
    Its got that wavey look to it. I think most acids will dissolve all surfaces at the same rate.
