What caused this orange peel?

I'm having a hard time getting a picture that shows how this coin looks.
The entire reverse has this orange peel look. My understanding is that this is caused by a worn die. But the detail is sharp and there is no sign of stirations.
The obverse looks normal. What's everyones thoughts.

John Brown's Fort must have been using oranges for cannon balls.

 

I think I'll keep it as an example of orange peel. I've never seen anything like this before.
