What is the cause of these scratches or can you tell? PMD or Die scratches?

Does it make this coin more desirable with the color?

If the scratches (lines) are raised, they would be "die file lines", and that sure is one Purdy Lincoln!

Sorry, I should have splained, the cause is from the die being polished/filed to remove debris or something. That's about as tech as I can get.....

Looks to me like some are die scratches but others are not.

Some of them look like die scratches others look like they are PMD. It's hard to tell from the photo's. But as said above, if they are raised they came from the die.

I agree with Doug. The lines through LIBERTY appear to be in the die. The lines on the date side do not (at least from the images)

Ok. There are some on the reverse too. I'll try and take better images but Samsung camera phone isn't great.

They appear raised on both sides of the obv and the lower portion of the rev.

As others have said. They appear to be die polish lines. Is it proof like? Pretty coin. :)

Can't tell for sure, but the mintmark kinda-sorta looks like a RPM.

There are 32 rpm's for this date and mm. So most probably yes it's a rpm.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Those all appear to be die scratches to me. 40's era S-mint coins were often covered in them.

@TypeCoin971793 , it doesn't look to have any reflectivity from those pictures. Yes, the 40's era S mint prooflikes usually have a lot of die polish, but there are plenty of normal business strike coins with die polish as well.

That was my feeling as well, so I asked.

New images all appear to be die polish lines.

Any traces of black nail polish?

No nail polish. The coin has been through a few acetone dips to remove organic matter.
