I'm sure there are already threads like this, but I couldn't find any recently. So my question is, what are your 2, 5, 10 or however many favorite errors, and how did you acquire them? Roll-searching, cherrypicked or purchased straight up? My favorite so far is this cud, and this lamination. I got the cud from a bank roll before I started collecting errors, and I got the V-nickel cherrypicked for $7. I also have a 1998 Jeff nickel that I found roll searching, but I can't take a good picture of it yet, but it has 5 die cracks ranging from thin to thick radiating from the center, so I think it might be a shattered die. I'll try to get pictures of it in the future.
My favorite errors are things that I have cherry picked or pulled out of circulation. My best circulation finds are, by far, in currency.
this is my favorite 1805 8reales the H in HISPANA is gone and you can see IIII were the H was too be.
My favorites are ones that I don't have to pay extra for. That is, I love to Cherrypick them. I have gotten three 1858/7 Flying eagles that I cherried over the past few years. Plus other varieties. edited by me: Dummy that I am this is an error question, not varieties. Sorry.
Here is my favorite error, a 1999 lincoln, with a type 2 (wide AM) reverse. Surprisingly enough, I found this coin roll searching about a year ago. However, I only recently sent it to be graded.
I like doubling. 1888 O Morgan, donkey tail, crossbar, I like the 1922 No D cent, 1955 Lincoln double die and the 1969 S lincoln doubling!
That 99 Wide AM rocks. How much do you estimate it's worth? I also really like the V nickel. Nice pick.
I prefer major striking errors & planchet errors that can be easily identified by non-collectors without magnification. Missing Clad Layers Wrong Planchets Large Cuds Off-Centers Double Strikes MAJOR Doubled Dies If I need to use my microscope to see the error or variety, then it is not so interesting to me personally. Although I still look for these items, they are not my favorite.
I guess it be 2009-D DDO. manly because I was at the shop my buddy Charles had found a Philly one in about the 1st 20 coin we were looking at, we had a 2 bag a P&D $100. mint bag but Charles found the 1st one Philly I found the known one that Wexler had listed back in Coin World The pin & Wallace for President was a no brainier
It's hard to nail down the favorite but I'd have to say die clashes, good visible ones are great but I even like having to use my loop once in awhile to see them. I like large die chips. I've been lucky in the short time I've been collecting errors. I found 10 "Godless" dollars in one roll. I had 5 graded 1 a 64, 2 65s and 2 66s. I sold a 64,65,and 66. I have a Polk dollar sent to Ken Potter thats possibly a dropped letter I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. I have to thank my 11 yo grand-daughter for getting me into errors. Took her to a show and she latched on to visible obvious errors. Got me doing a little research and got hooked!

i've posted these pics before but it still qualifies as my favorite "error" even though it is post mint. Its still a cool coin to be given. So here's my 1942-P silver post-mint damaged nickel: Couldn't get pics to upload so here's the url. http://tylerpenlandweatherservice.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=7895927 Other than that, die breaks and double-dies are my favorites. Enjoy! :goofer:
