Well it looks like the time has come as my order just shipped for my 5 - 3/4 oz .9999 Kennedy gold pieces. This coincided with MCM saying they will pay $110 over per plus shipping. That's a $550 plus the CC reward cash back that's around $700. My initial thought was to have them graded selling 4 of them hoping to get the 5th hopefully a PR70 for free. Now the thought of a 10+% one month profit seems kind of nice too. What is everyone else planning on doing with theirs?
Okay, so if I were you.. I'd sell to them.. By the way, "already" is a misstatement. There were premiums the 1st day-- As all know that day is a story in itself.
I'll probably get the silver set this fall. I wonder how many gold kennedy ana labels modern coin wholesale has. They pay people $300 to get the coin, provide the right credentials, pay the $1240 and the grading fee totaling around $1600. Then they go ahead and try to pass them off for almost $5000. is anyone actually buying these at this rip off price?
I think it is going to be great if someone puts these gold kennedys in half dollar rolls thinking it is gold plated. That would be a heck of a score for the roll searchers.
First strike label means nothing in my opinion. I know people like to collect slabs and labels as well but why pay a hefty premium for another 2 words on a label? Buy the coin not the label
I will be grading mine if it arrives in time for early release. I was not able to order right away since I was at the ANA show, but ordered one at about 12:30 that night when we arrived home. If it arrives past the cutoff, I will keep it raw.
MCM appears to be offering these for sale at a wire price of 1357.73. How can they be buying at 1240 + 110 = 1350, plus shipping?
No score at ANA so I ordered two online. I am just going to stash them as they are. Thought about getting ER labels for them but what for? I'd be disappointed if they both came back 69 instead of 70. So they will remain as they come.
Ah, FedEx on 3 or more coins. That gives them a margin of, um, maybe 0.1%? Maybe what they're planning is to submit the ones that they're sure will make 70, and sell the others on at cost. A coworker who's a PCGS member said he checked the census yesterday, and I think he said about 75% of the Kennedy Golds were coming in at PR70. Given that, and that every one submitted this month is eligible for First Strike, I'm failing to see how the premiums for slabbed coins are going to hold up. Maybe I ought to chicken out and sell to MCM...
Agreed. The ANA fiasco turned me off on them. If I had one, it would keep reminding me of something I would rather not remember.
Just got mine in, keeping it raw. Can not find a scratch anywhere on it. If you have not actually seen one then you would not understand this but the mint did a NICE job on this one. I can not see how it is not PR70. Still it is a nice nice nice coin. Keeping mine as I have been saving for months for it. You could not buy it off me for $1500 even though I can buy 4 more...
