    ummmmm no.

There is NO way a corroded (probably ground found) 1877 cent is worth more then $200 or so... and a scratched 1909 S VDB... maybe $400-$500 on a good day.

That's a pretty rough 77, a filler coin in most Indian collector's sets.

I agree with the Dutchman, the way I think about it is that most of my indian cents are xf -au, so if someone offers me the key for 200 and it looks like this, I tend to think that I need to get a better one for the set, so the 200 is gone, and who knows if anyone else would spend 200 for one that corroded? so If I wait, i put the 200 I would have spent towards saving up for a nice one.

$200 is generous for that 1877. $150 tops IMHO.

    I agree with Matt.

The 1877 is heavily corroded, I'd take cleaned or scratched over corrroded. It's going to keep eating the coin until it's properly addressed. Whoever slabbed it should have addressed it before they submitted it....you might as well because there was no way it was going to get a grade anyway.

The SVDB is actually not too bad...I've seen much worse in details slabs. If you auction it, I'd think $400-500 is realistic depending on the bidders.

JUST A QUESTION! Would it hurt any? If I were to remove the 1877 and soak it in VERDI-CARE for sometime, And NOT put it into the PCGS slab. Just leave it as a RAW ungraded coin?

Theres no helping that one... Leave it be.

if you remove it from the slab and treat it, even though you may prevent future corrosion, you will have a hard time reselling it (or convincing anyone it is real) because it is raw. Somewhat of a catch 22.

I agree with what's been said. Don't remove them from the slabs.

It's hard to put a price on a problem coin. Ebay auctions are crazy.
One day they bring very little and the next folks will drive the price well beyond what I feel they are worth.

It's too late. I'd sell them both "as is" in the their slabs and use the money to buy a nice, problem-free coin.

I put them both on auction, 1877 for 385 and 1909 s vdb for 585. I want to THANK all responses! In this lot I bought for 3000 I also received alot of .925 10k 14k jewelry and 2 complete IH sets and 2 complete sets of Lincoln with all the Key semi Key dates and tons of varieties in both series and over 100 errors. Average cost to me for each coin .06 cents. and all the jewelry was free. Everything will go to auction. Thanks again for all the help. 213sarah

Best of luck to you Sarah in your auctions, I enjoy hearing about your desire to collect some of the finest cents. Kind of like the coming of "The Penny Lady part deux" ;)

Good luck! Why no guts? Try a $0.99 start and watch the bidding wars erupt!

NO SALE at those prices. So, I relisted both at .01 no reserve. If they reach .06 cents I would get back what I paid for them! AT .07 cents it would be pure profit! Let's see how that turns out!

Did you put up a one day auction? Those typically either don't work, or won't work out well in your favor. A BIN set to the max. days allowed would have been better. Maybe even add in a best offer option, best of luck and I see you got an awesome deal.

10 day auction no BEST OFFER set. Unless things have changed? Once the first bid is made, the Buy It Now and Best Offer disappears! Due to no reserve was set. I lost money before, doing that. Maybe Ill read up on that, to see just how that works these days. 213sarah
