I have long wondered (for 3 months, lol) what these slash marks are on this 1923 penny. Also, what is that melted looking blob at the top? Are these errors or just circulation abuse? Lots of unexplained stuff on this coin.

The coin appears to PMD (post mint damage) based on your pics as far as the blob it appears to be a possible cud need better pic.IMO

Really! I have seen several coins like that, but this is one I kept because of its age. Not sure I can get better pics. I'll try. Just looked at your website you sent me. The pics have that "melted" look like mine, or even like the copper edge has been flipped like a pancake.
So I'm making a collection for my grown children for when I'm gone. Is there a special name for this type of cud error? I want to write it on the 2x2. Thanks in advance.

I don't think that is a CUD at all. The edge probably took a hit and mishaped it.

Whenever posting pictures of coins you have questions about please provide full images of both sides and the edge.

It is a worthless damaged coin. What you are thinking is a cud is damage as well.

Well for an undamaged 1923 in VG that might be 40 cents or so.
Yours being damaged, I would say 10-15 cents.
So there's still a little value. It's not .01 cent.

Yeah, the slash marks could be anything but I'm thinking it was likely stored with other cardboard coin flips and the staple side imprinted your cent piece. It's a shame, better luck, next time. :D

Before I'd totally write the possibility of a Cud off, flip the coin over and take a look in the area of the Reverse rim (near the bottom of the right Wheat Stalk) for some unexpected artifact. That might give you some additional info as to the possible cause of the POI on the Obverse; a photo of that area would also be helpful.

Looks like a nice well worn 1923 Wheat Cent with a sad case of Post Mint Damage.

'ya know how women pile up change in the bottom of their purses for years it seems?
well, guys sometimes pile up change in their tools box.

Do you think the coins are cushioned in their own individual bubblewrap felt pouches or do they get hit and gouged from about anything ?

Lord only knows what happened to this poor coin. It's survived this long, now it's safe for another 60 years. Lol. Fallout, I'll look now and try more pics. Just for fun of course.

More pictures of the sad coin 1923 tried to get different angles. NowIm thinking the coin may be off center, misaligned.
