What are these marks on this coin? They are not scratches since they are raised up. I have seen them on other coins.

They might be die cracks or just PMD. I'm a noob at this kind of stuff though.

They are actually scratches. The copper has to go somewhere when a coin is scratched. It comes up around the scratch.

We can call them "gouges" if you prefer, but they're damage either way.

They look like damage to me but they are raised up, which is weird. I have posted other coins with damage, and they turned out to be mint errors. I can't tell the difference sometimes.

Your coin is pretty worn - if those raised lines were from the mint then they would be worn too. Some kind of PMD.

Here are examples of coins I thought were damaged that turned out to be mint errors. Often people think that when on Ebay so the winning bid is low.

Buddy... when a coin is gouged to the point of metal removal (happens on small scratches as well), said metal doesn't just disappear. Think about how, if you took a stick to flat sand, and cut it through the surface; sand will pile up on the sides of your trench, and essentially the same thing has happened to your coin. This is what ldhair was trying to explain earlier.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Buddy, the 74 in the first post is definitely scratched/gouged/damaged.

The other coins you posted appear to show lamination errors.
