Can someone tell me what these coins are and what they worth thanks! http://www.ebay.com/itm/300623835642?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Looks like cheap Chinese imitations. "I don't know anything about these coins", yeah I bet. I bet the seller knows they bought them cheap.
It is as much the buyers fault as it is the sellers. If a person who is going to join a hobby like this, and decides to NOT educate themselves, they are bound to get scammed by these people. This is why preaching your knowledge is very inportant when a new member joins and asks ANY question regarding numismatics.
I agree. The odd thing is when someone not particularly educated in the type of coins is willing to roll that kind of dough. Definitely a rookie mistake.
All i see is someone sellig coins same as most dealers. I have been ripped off by both. I havent met a coin dealer yet that dosent over price any coin they sell. I notice that most who call coins fake never offer a reason why. So if they are fake tell me what to look for.
Usually the reason why would take a very long time to explain, whereas the eye of someone experienced in coins of that type works much quicker.
Reasons Woody: 1. First probably 95% of these coins in the US now are chinese fakes. These coins need to be proven good usually versus the other way around. 2. The luster is dull. 3. The style looks funny on some of these. This is the "eye" Numismat talks about. Is it POSSIBLE to find a group of these on EBay? Yeah, but its like a needle in the haystack versus the thousands if similar listing selling these fakes every day. Its a good point Woody that people should be a little more informative why we believe things are fakes. Some of us just have seen these so many times we use shortcuts to refer to similar items we have seen 50 times before on this board. Hope that helped a little. Chris
