    Hello,

What are the best web portals to sell a Silver Thaler Collection?

I am interested in selling my collection and would like to know if the board has any experience in the best venue to do so.
World Coins collecting is a target audience, however my Silver Thaler collection is not for the average collector.

I have some very rare silver coins from the 14th, 15th, 16th & 17th century and would appreciate any assistance or advice from the board.

    Thanks

As much as I hate to say this ebay is probably your best bet. You might have some luck offering them here. Or you could post on the NGC and PCGS forums - both have some knowledgeable thaler collectors.

Personally, if you have some serious thalers I would think an auction house listing them in a major sale, (CICF, ANA, FUN, NYI), would get you the highest return. Its a matter of clientele. Post them on Ebay and you will have a few serious collectors see it, but most deep pocket collectors do not troll Ebay every day, they receive pronted catalogs and have a month to peruse what they wish to bid on. Even with seller fees I would think it would net out much higher than any online sale.

This is the reason Ebay has not put Sotheby's, CNG, Heritage, and others out of business.

P.S. I know the OP asked about electronic selling, I simply did not know his timeframe, and was pointing out that electronic may not be the way to go at all with rare coins.

I would normally agree Chris, but the size/value of his collection also plays a big part. Heritage for example will only accept consignments worth $5,000 and up. And all of the coins will need to be slabbed. Most other auction houses are going to be the same or with even higher requirements.

Does DNW sell anything of this sort? Most of their coins I have seen at auction are not slabbed, and they have a large following of online bidders.

IDK, but I know CNG is the same, and most product there is not slabbed. I do not know however how it works selling there, and if they own everything they sell or if they accept consignment, (I believe consignments). This would be a US, non-graded, large following alternative.

Btw Doug I agree with your points about heritage. I guess I made the assumption that these were higher dollar items.
