I have 9 of them not cirrculated in pakages... It says on the packages because they are duplicates Susan B. Anthony Dollar coins 1979 P,S,D. Designere:Frank Gasparro Composition: Pure Copper Core; outer layers of .75 copper and .25 nickel Weight: 8.1 grams; diameter: 26.5 mm and the other one Are they rare? I guess they probably are because they are in packages
Unless they are in super high grades - MS66 and above, SBAs are worth exactly 100¢. Millions were minted and they didn't generally circulate very much.
I would tend to disagree with Satootoko that SBA in mint packages are worth only $1. If they are in unopened mint packages, there is a slight premium even if they are only MS60. The problem is that the only way to get any value for these coins if you wanted to sell them right now is to sell them on Ebay. No dealer will give you more than the $1 face value. The only potential exception would be for the 1979-P if it turned out to be the "Near Date" or "Wide Rim" variety. That particular coin has a higher value than the others. Having said that, I think your best bet for these coins is to hold on them. I believe the SBAs will become one of those series that will one day become popular to collect because they are a short series and will not be hard to find.
I agree with FHDave. The 1999 SBA`s in US Mint packs also are worth more than 100 cents each. These were not included in the 1999 Mint sets. These are not scarce by any means with 29,592,000 minted in Philly, and 11,776,000 minted in Denver. But they are worth more than a dollar. On the other hand, the 1999-S proofs only have a mintage of 750,000. This is a Really, Really low mintage for regular issue modern US proof coins. These sell for between $20-$30. A real steal in my opinion. Compare this to the Wacky price of the 2001-S Proof Sac Dollar (about $100) with a fairly high mintage of 3,184,606.
Like said earlier, a dollar. Still, what you have might be a mint set maybe? Could you post a pic? Phoenix
Back in 1999 I stop in the Philadelphia Mint’s store just to look and picked up 6 1999 SBA proof s and 4 of the Uncirculated sets. The proofs at the time were like 8 or 9 bucks the mintage I believe is under a million. Best looking SBA I have ever had.
Are these the special mint sets that were produced by the Mint that had all three of the P-D-S coins in one package? If so, then they definitely have a premium over the $3 of face value. The 1979 set is probably the one with the least value due to the sheer number of SBAs that were minted the first year.
Without the other coins these must be the souvenir minrt sets. These do sometimes include the near date coin. There have also reportedly been some gems found in them. The S mint coin is quite scarce in gem. Don't get your hopes up though since rare coins are... ...well, rare.
Umm well as you know coins are very subjective. Worth is based on grades and luster/ eye appeal. Dont give up on emm because some body told you they was only worth a buck. If your coins are a high grade then you should exercise all effort into proper storage and preservation and sit on emm. You say there are wrapped, then cool. Put a Glass to emm and give a close look. Check out some grading sites and if they are MS64 or better, dont buy a soda with emm. And give emm some time too mature. If they are MS60 or less go ahead and have your self a soda. Or a cup of coffee ~~just my 2 cents But I am betting that the S mint is a keepper.
Another reason to hold on to the coins is that I think we will start seeing more varieties collected from the series. Similar to the Franklin halves with the Full Bell Line (FBL) variety, I think we will see a Full Talon (FT) variety for the SBAs. There was an excellent article in last May's Numismatist magazine from the ANA on this topic. Since then, I have paid a lot closer attention to my SBA collection (which is almost complete) and have been adding FT varieties to it.
First thing...edit your post and remove your actual name from the attempt to post pics of the coins! Second, read the sticky post on how to post pics to the forums. You need to upload the pics either to this site, or to one of the many internet sites that allow you to upload pics and then provide a link to the specific location at that site.
