Went to list a 1916 Cuba 2 Peso this evening on eBay, and got some message from eBay saying it was a prohibited item. Yet there are all these other coins on eBay listed from Cuba including other gold 2 peso coins. What gives?? Message below: You can not submit your listing due to the following problems Listings for stamps, coins or paper money from Cuba are not permitted. eBay’s policy prohibits the sale of most items that originate from Cuba due to sanctions enforced by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Well, I just saw the earlier thread. Never mind. Started with a ban on Liberty Dollars, and now pre-revolution Cuban coins that were struck in the UNITED STATES!!...,, Just a matter of time before all coins and precious metals are prohibited on eBay after the US government slaps on currency controls as the dollar collapses.
Since this started I've seen some very creative listings to get around this. I saw someone list a Cuban coin as "Western Atlantic 10 centavos." I've also seen a North Korean coin as "Upper Korea." I sold two Cuban coins since this ban started just by removing all mentions of "Cuba" from the listing. You can still do it but you might not get as many bids since it will be harder for someone to find it.
I refuse to deal with those imbeciles. Will take a little while longer to sell it on eBid, but then I can list it for 10% less than what I needed for it on eBay since I won't be paying any seller's commission on it. With each additional bone-headed policy change eBay makes, other competing sites become that much more viable. In the long run, we should all be grateful eBay is run by such idiots, as other venues charge much less to sell on. In any case, have a look. It's priced right so it will sell at some point, especially since eBay has given away this entire market space to their competitors. http://us.ebid.net/for-sale/1916-cu...struck-at-the-philadelphia-mint-105624719.htm
Makes you wonder why we are called the land of the free. Seems like soon that will be the only free thing left. Why do i feel today people would give up any or all freedoms we have for the love of a goverment that hands out food stamps and free cell phones?
