Lack of history and the fact they only accept check/money orders could be hampering some folks too.

Personally for me a high value coin like that would NEVER be sold on ebay.

Last Sat. at 2pm a 55DD XF++ a really nice one went for $770. I almost bid on it to put back on ebay. i know I could have sold it for $1000. So you ask, why didn't you. NO gut's. or money.

I would have bid on it had I seen it before it ended - more than a couple grand.Alas, I did not catch it until it had ended!

This coin is being debated over on the Collector's Universe message boards. A member over there took a shot at it. However, most of the posters do not feel that the winning bidder will actually ever receive that coin.

Although I am aware of the suspesious parts of this ad...as have been stated already. What really bothers me though it I can't see the coin. The pictures are too small and hazy to see any detail what so ever, from where I am sitting, I can't even see the DDO features...and those 1955s are really obvious. If I can't see the details of the coin, I won't consider bidding on it...certified or not.

Another thing to consider is that the old PCGS "rattler" holders are easier to tamper with than present-day holders.

I cannot really comment on the coin itself. However, the PCGS number is listed at PCGS as just what is described - MS-64 et al.

I just wanted to give an update on this 1955 Doubled Die Lincoln that was a bargain on ebay.

The winning bidder unfortunately did not get the coin. It was, indeed, a scam and the seller was NARU'ed from ebay.

The picture of the coin in a MS-64 PCGS rattler holder was stolen from this coin that Heritage auctioned:

Goes to show, that if something seems too good to be true, then it normally is not true.

The clue to me is when he said I 'm no longer taken Pay Pal. Only money orders. Plus no sellers is going to tell you it is worth all this money and oh yes I'm getting married.:eek:dd:   :mouth:
