Recently I got a free copy of the "NUMISMATIST" at a coin show in Portland, Or. I like the Mag and realize it is published by the A.N.A. . There has been a lot published in recent months about lawsuits and political infighting in the organization. So I'd like some candid opinions from members of the ANA on what you think of the Association. Do you recommend it to your friends? JonySky
here is a thread from a different board that discusses some of the advantages and disadvantages of joining the ANA. Caveat: Please understand that the first post by mmarotta (post 3 in the thread) is written "tongue-in-cheek" and is meant to be humorous. If you misread it as being purely strait-forward you will miss his humor and his point. The thread is very candid, I expect it to answer your question.
We have been talking about this on WINS....most people are mad at the ANA and have given up...right now I'm not a member of it but that is more because I needed the $$ but I'll join back up soon.....it isn't the ANA that is bad...it is the people in power...what the ANA needs is good members to vote for the right guys...I don't like many of the things they have done in the past but there are also some things I liked...so I would say it is up to the person...does he/she want to be a member of a club that has 30000 +/- members and does he/she think it is worth the money.... It was nice that a few people towards the end of the thread (names I recognize from here, of course) finally recognized Mike's post for the absolute classic that it was. It gets my vote for best sarcasm of the year, partly because it_did sail so far over the heads of most of the readership. I've bookmarked that post for future reference.
