Well, here is a Statue of Liberty coin made from metal taken from the old SoL when they did the refurbish. The Gold Leaf Corp produced it back in 1986 which is when I bought it. Lee Iacocca was the chairman/sponser. Sure looked like US Mint packaging to me at the time - lol.
Did you know that “Iacocca” is actually an acronym for “I Am Chairman of Chrysler Corporation of America” - strange coincidence huh??

Definitely the 1906-S Philippines Peso I picked up at a flea market for five bucks. Should've foreseen the inevitable disappointment when it turned out to be magnetic and, hence, a fake, but at least I learned my lesson!

I was in the Manila last year and someone gave me several silver peso coins made around WW 2 - I’ll have to find a magnet to check them out.

I'll fess up, in the many years I have collected I have screwed up a few times, but live and learn. He is a Cent I bought in 1996 from a coin dealer that was in bad health. He sold this to me for $35.00 and said "this is trash or treasure, not sure which" I kept this in his memory. (thinking trash)

I have at least a dozen . . . Coincidentally, I was thinking about them today.

I've got perhaps a dozen counterfeit gold coins I've bought over the years . . . mostly eBay purchases I was unsuccessful in returning. I was wondering today if I could deduct my full purchase price for each against profits on my tax return if I donate them to the Anti-Counterfeiting Task Force so that they could use them as teaching tools.

If I can't, I might just as well sell scrap them out and record the lower sales price.

Before I do either, I should photograph and post them for CT members to look at.

BTW, I'm sure I've got other regrets . . . just don't think as much about those.

It is funny, I don't regret buying any coins even if I paid too much. But I still remember coins I didn't buy but wish I did.

I can't recall any. I'm fairly tight with my money so when I spend it I get something in return.

Ones I sold indeed!! Mostly when I needed some quick cash so they sure came in handy but wish I didn’t have to sell.

    That's a tough question.

Mine was a tie between a 1903 PCGS PF61 quarter eagle I purchased from Great Collections based on images that did not show the altered surfaces (PVC haze use to hide hairlines) and my 1905 NGC PF67 CAM nickel bought before the prices crashed.

Mine would be the rolls of ASE’s I bought when silver was teetering around $30.00 an ounce.

That reminds me of the Platinum Eagle set in 2006 I think - ouch. Hope I don’t regret the Moon Landing commems I just ordered....

Garlicus Debt is dumb, cash is king.

    You, too, huh? lol
    Still holding on to mine.
Not necessarily regretting it, as I'm not looking to sell any time soon. It will still be a windfall for my heir(s?), I suppose, as the future cost will be zero. Still, more stocks would have been much better at the time.

  21. Buy low sell high. I have made a lot of money holding on to just like stocks. Someday I hope silver will return dollar for dollar. What a wonderful world this would be. Free advice for the future. Go by a salvage yard. It there is a big pile of metal get ready to sell quickly. If the yard is empty hold onto your metals and hat.
The man who has metal will always have money. Next time you go by a house with fifty junk cars in the yard, he probably is worth a lot more than you.
