I know its technically not a coin, but I was wondering if there were any experts on war medals that could help me with this. As a West Virginian, I was naturally drawn to this: A West Virginia Killed in Battle Civil War Medal. It has the name of the deceased and his regiment on the rim. Does anyone know what these might be worth, or how common or rare they are? Were they issued immediately after the Civil War, or sometime later? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Have a read of this :smile http://www.wvculture.org/HISTORY/medals.html Wonderful medal you have there, I have never seen one before so thanks for sharing it. De Orc :kewl: Late addition LOL http://www.lindapages.com/cwmedals.htm
Maybe the present-day mint technicians should try and contact the descendants of the people who struck that medal and see if they know how their ancestors managed to inscribe the edge n so well.
If you check out the link you will see that you can still claim one of 3 classes of medal today De Orc :kewl:
I saw that...unfortunately, I have no family that I can legitimately link to as West Virginia Civil War combat death. Thanks for the link De Orc.
