Looks like a sov by colour & inscription (bronze coins have the full inscription, but spell out FID: DEF, for example, so it's not one of those), but as moneyer says, we'll need the reverse details to be sure.

If it contains George & the dragon with the date in exergue, it's a sovereign (or half-sovereign). Look also for a small letter between the middle two digits of the date above, under the horse. If none, it was minted in London. Other letters could be M=Melbourne, S=Sydney, P=Perth, C=Ottawa.

A full sovereign contains 0.2354oz of gold, and a half sovereign half that amount.

22 carat gold, .916 fine gold.

There may not be a letter - if that's the case, it's a London sovereign. Best to weigh the coin if you can to get its weight and therefore whether it's a half or full sovereign.

There are many fake coins in the world, most people do not come into possession of a gold coin with out knowing everything about it. How did this coin come to being in your possession? Where it was found and whom last possessed it could answer some questions.

If a magnate sticks to it, it is definitely fake... ;)
If it passes that, you should weigh it on a scale accurate to at least .01 grams
next would be to closely compare it with other known real examples and/or mail it to a reputable Third Party Grader. I.E. PCGS, NGC, ANACS, ICG.....
Although if you only want the gold weight value, you could have it acid tested for gold purity at most any jeweler.
