Mainly just to check it out and see some cool coins. I didn't bring much cash because I didn't want to drain my life savings making impulse buy after impulse buy. I still need an SLQ, Barber half and Morgan dollar to complete my 20th century type set, but I knocked the Barber half off the list while I was there. Paid 28 bucks for it. Any opinions on grade, future suggestions or positive or negative feedback is welcome.
I think it's in the VG10 neighborhood. Nice half! I believe that my only Barber half is also a 1908-O oddly enough.
I was at 10, too, but ran off to Photograde to check myself against @C-B-D -- where I would swear that it matches feature-for-feature with their F12 photo. Don't know what it is about 1908-Os, but my first better-than-worn-out Barber half was that same date. Mine's probably lower-VF, and I completely lucked into it (wasn't shown in photos for the auction lot that contained it). Nice example!
I like it! And you stuck to your plan. If I didn't stick to a plan, I'd have coins coming out of my ears.
Perhaps think of it this way: when it comes to inexpensive coins, all that should really matter is how much you'll enjoy owning it. Think of what other fun or enjoyment you'd get for the same money - in this case $28 - and ask yourself if it's worthwhile. As for future tips, avoiding impulse buys was a smart move. Other than this, and as with most everything related to this hobby, knowledge is key. If still needing an SLQ and Morgan, do as much homework as you reasonably can before you go and stick to your guns (don't settle). Especially doing a type set, you've unlimited opportunity to search out an example that speaks to you and is a perfect fit for whatever your budget may be.
Thanks for the advice and comments everyone. Would've gotten back sooner, was in NYC for the past couple of days though.
