Now everyone can tell me what an idiot I am for buy this. I bought it because everything on it is struck up good and it isn't all dinged up. Plus it doesn't look like it as been wiped and I can afford it. In about 50 years when I am dead and gone it might tone up again. http://coins.ha.com/itm/seated-doll.../131538-27195.s?ic4=ListView-Thumbnail-071515 But the one I really excited out is this one. http://coins.ha.com/itm/seated-doll...3=ViewItem-Auction-Archive-PreviousLot-081514 Maybe I'll sell one to offset the price of one of them. Just hope the wife don't find out what I bought.
I think in hand you will see the cleaning better on the first - does not look too bad to me but it is there. The second one is really nice in my opinion. As far as I am concerned if you like the first then that is all that matters.
I start collecting in the late 70s and early 80s. Then I was a beginner and at 1st I signed up for a program by Bowers & Ruddy where I would send them $100 per month. And they would send me different coins. To this day I still have every coin they sent me. I don't buy coins to make a profit (all though that would be nice). Probably never will sell anything unless I get hungry or can't pay the bills I just looked to see what one of the coins that I bought from B&R (1943D Walking Liberty Half MS67). I paid $59 for it then.Another one is a 1926D Standing Liberty Quarter MS65 (not full head) I don't remember what I paid for it. I can't believe what these go for now. Another example, I bought a 1799 Draped Bust Dollar XF40 from Steve Ivy Auctions in Dallas that had some minor scratches on the reverse. I worried that I paid to much for it then. I am sure not worried now. My point is to "collect what you like" as long as you don't put your family into hock. I have been out of the collecting seine for awhile buy now that I am retired I have more time to devote to it. And enjoying it even more. By the way I am still a beginner.
Exactly my point - collect what you like. Welcome back to the hobby! Sounds like you made some good buys years ago. From the looks of these two coins you have a nice collection. Please feel free to post pictures of other coins in the collection. I always enjoy seeing new stuff.
Buy what makes you happy I guess, but don't expect me to congratulate you on it. The 1846 is quite attractive (if a bit overgraded), and is exactly what you should be looking for. But that first one is hideous.
I liked the 1st one because it didn't look scrubbed, dipped maybe but not scrubbed. And it is stuck up good. The XFs that I have seen just had to much ware. I hadn't planed on the 2nd one (it was an impulse buy) it didn't look cleaned and it was a type 2. The color looked good and all the detail was there. I my have paid a little more for it. After I am dead and gone who is going to know the difference? I don't plan on flipping either one to make a profit. I have coins in my collection that I have had for over 30 years. At the time I wondered if paid to much. Don't even remember what I paid for most of them. I know I didn't pay near what they sell for now. Back then they didn't have MS 61, 62, 64, 66, 68,69. It was unheard of MS70. I remember AU50,AU55, MS 60, 63, 65, 67 and that was it. But I still like to hear the opinions of others on the stuff I buy. Thanks you for yours and others input. It is much appreciated.
