Did my normal Saturday morning drop off and pick up and when I went to my pick up bank to get their bags I was told it was a no go anymore. Apparently they were audited and got hit for all of the bags that were sold to me. Headquarters told them that they had to go to the Fed and that bags couldn't be sold to members. Now I have no source of boxes or bags. Guess I will go through what I have sitting around and then I'm done. It's been a great 2.5 years.
Bummer. Seems like this would be worth a letter to headquarters, especially if you're an account holder. You may not be able to change the mind of a high-level bureaucrat, but you can certainly let them know that they've disappointed a member.
I don't know all the details, but I'm willing to bet you've cost them a bit of money recycling all that loose change for you. I wouldn't be happy either, but I can't say I blame them for their policy...
I don't dump back on them. Talking with the branch manager, he said it was a dumb policy and that they liked me coming in and picking up the bags since it meant they didn't have to store it until the armored car company came to pick it up and they didn't have to pay to have it picked up.
Credit unions always seem to be much nicer about everything in general. A call would not hurt as you WERE doing them a favor.
I do love this Credit Union. They are super awesome. Perhaps next week I will call. After I've had some time to calm down a bit. Not only is this a hobby for me, it helps me zone out and not have to think about things since I get pretty bad anxiety. This has really been a life saver for me over the past few years.
My coins and flower beds are my cure for my own anxiety problems. They are both a relaxer and therapy. Remember the stork with the half swallowed frog with the caption "Never Give Up". It's only a temporary stumbling block.
A branch manager is like the bartender at your local watering hole. He will always listen to your complaints while serving you drinks. On the other hand, the decision-maker at headquarters is like an architect. He has never worked a bar in his life and doesn't have the slightest idea what works and what doesn't. It's time for you to move on, but it won't do any good telling the manager why unless he/she asks. Chris
I wasn't thinking of talking to the manager. I was thinking of calling headquarters. Not that it'll do any good in the long run.
I called around and the only bank willing to order me boxes is a TD bank near my CU. I'm going to go this week and probably set up an account there. The guy I talked to wasn't sure about buying bags off the machine but he said I could talk to the manager about it. *FINGERS CROSSED*
I too am interested if they let you buy the bags. I've inquired at the TD banks near me, and each one gives me the same yarn that they don't have access to the bags inside the machines.
Frog, if you're going for bags, you want to ask if there's anyone coming in there regularly redeeming large amounts of coin. If there is, you wan't to hop on out of there.
I am lucky that my wife's business runs a lot of money through our bank. They don't have a coinstar there and will only order boxes for me or sell me rolls from the drawer. they don't have bags. I am a credit union member but I don't get cents there. They don't have many and I already get boxes at the other bank. CU's don't get as much change as banks that deal with small businesses. I dump at the Coinstar in the "Safeway" grocery store. If I want the cash I'll take the 10.9% hit otherwise Amazon gift cards and iTunes cards are 100%. My wife and daughter appreciate those. I only do cents though so the most I return is about $40.00 per drop. Oh and I have the anxiety thing too. You better find another bank fast... LOL
You could start buying all the bags and boxes you can find and deposit them into your account at the CU. Make it your dump spot. I'm just joking, I know you like the folks there and they have been good for you. I'm just thinking evil.
