I have a 2000 South Carolina quarter with something wrong with it. There is a LARGE crack going from the palm tree (tales side), down to the date, then up to the bird, and around under the "South Carolina". There is also a circular crack directly in the center of the tales side, that is about 3-4 mm in diameter. This looks like a perfect cirlce. There are other lines in different places that are about 4 mm long. I would try to get a picture up, but my camera can not capture such detail. Just to tell you gys, these are NOT scratches. These lines can also be seen with the naked eye, from 3 feet away. Do you know how common this is? Is it worth holding on it? Rob
Can you scan the quarter ? Die breaks are pretty common though- I have a set of State quarters I have made up of all die breaks/chips. I dont think they are worth any more than 25 cents. Just a neat thing to hold onto if you like it. But a picture may change my opinion.
If you have a digital camera, try using a magnifying glass in front of the lens. I have used a telescope eyepiece before to get good close ups. Just a thought- it may help capture that detail.
