I was looking at a 1963 proof set today and I noticed the franklin had what looked like paint on the reverse but it was in the cello... is this toning or what? Has anyone seen that before? Thanks.

I don't have it. It's at the shop sorry. I was just wondering if this sounded familiar to anyone?

Some of the proofs get a "toning haze" inside the cello. Most apparent on the mirror surfaces. But "paint" ??? yes, need photos sometime.

It's like white and you can't see any mirror through it.

Some shops make a proof set they know is not a Cameo. that maybe there mark.

Sounds like Haze. Most the times cannot be removed even by dipping.
