Hello friends. Im new to this site. I have a a strange looking quarter that I came across some time ago. Its from 1982. I don't know much about coins so any insight would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

The coin took an acid bath. The acid ate away the softer copper core faster than the harder copper/nickel clad layers. There are plenty of other threads with similar coins on CoinTalk.

My quarter sounds like silver. Feels lighter too. Why would someone do this to a quarter? Any clue?
