Hey guys I'm new here, and I found this coin the other day, going through my old stuff, and I was wondering what the deal was on it, if anyone has any information?

As you can see, the front of it looks like a regular old 1993 nickel. But it's missing the entire back half. I didn't know if it was a magician's coin maybe, or maybe someone pried one apart (I don't even know what the inside of one looks like). Or even if it was a fake, but if it was a fake, why would they counterfeit a nickel?

    With regards,
    Jordan

Likely hollowed out, not a fake coin, not an error

Looks like half of a magicians coin.

I'd like to see better pictures but from what I see it doesn't look to me like it has been machined out.

I believe you can just make out the marks from the milling and what looks like adhesive residue possibly?

Well, to answer the OP's question, the coin in question is not fake, and it was not struck this way. It has been machined (as mentioned above), but I can't tell from the photos if it's been pocketed or just machined flat.

well, if it still had the monticello on it, i'd say it was a coin to win in coin tosses and the one who was flipping the coin would always guess tails because the weight on the obverse would more likely land faced down instead of face up.
