I found this nickel during a roll hunt. It every unusual because all the lettering on both sides are connected to the rim with globes of nickel. To me, it looks like a death of a die. The letters are all fat that are stuck to the rim. Is this an error coin? Do they hold value? Or, should I put it back into circulation? Thanks for your help...Merry Christmas!
Pronounced radial flow lines show a very deteriorated die. One of the results of this is that the peripheral lettering spreads toward the rim.
Yes to die deterioration. You can find this on nearly every denomination with the spread towards the rim. This also happens to the torch on the Roosevelt dime.
