    Another Wierd Dime

    Hi folks,

A friend suggested that this pattern may have been caused by a penny being stacked on top of this dime, while under heat or pressure, but the 'columns' in the building are raised in the same way that they are on the back of a penny. Any ideas what might have caused this marking?

    Thanks

The dime is covered with glue. Someone pressed a cent into the glue when it was still tacky and the glue was then allowed to harden. These "glue jobs" are very common and quite deceptive.

Ah, I see -- I thought it odd that the pattern is convex, not concave, as I'd expect if the impression had been made by a penny.

    Thanks!
