    Hey All,

Always learning so since I have not seen this yet here, could you please explain to me why the LIB is so small? I might guess some sort of die wear/deterioration on the LIB. I do not see anything unusual with ERTY so this is going to be a good lesson for me. So let me have it, LOL. TY all!

    Oh it is a 1987-d Image1631.jpg Image1629.jpg Image1635.jpg Image1635.jpg Image1622.jpg

Lincoln cents before 1993 were struck on higher relief dies which would wear out quicker and some zinc plated coins struck by those dies would look kind of wavy due to the softer zinc quickly changing shape when struck trapped inside of the copper shell, that is why coins now are low relief. Another big factor is that on older zinc cents, they were bad at plating them so that would also make the planchet look wavy. That coin does not have any premium over one cent. When the planchet gets a wavy like surface some lettering may stretch.

Looks like a mix of die deterioration and plating issues. Nothing really out of the ordinary.

Thanks guys!!!! First time I ever saw this one and I thuoght it had something to do with deterioration. Neat to learn about the platting issues causing a wavy effect, which you can actually see.
It will be a keeper to teach and learn from! Thank you!

That's an excellent decision. I have keep most of the weird coins I have gotten for the lesson that I learned from studying up about how they got to be weird.
