Looking at https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces19583.html a 2 guilder is meant to be: 28mm wide, 2mm thick, 15.5g, .816 silver Looking at https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces4716.html a florin meant to be: 28.3mm wide, 2.3mm thick, 11.31g, .925 silver To me this doesn't seem right - the slightly smaller coin is noticeably heavier. I know the alloys are slightly different, but presumably the balance is made up of copper, and copper has a lower atomic weight than silver. Is the listed weight of the 2 guilder just wrong? I know the florin is right.
I have noticed discrepancies on Numista before. No one is 100% all the time. Still think they are #1 with coin info.
Hm, I'll have to do some more digging - what other sources did you look at 7Jags? My Remick doesn't have any weights listed.
Well I have florins but not D&E coins....LOL, so that is their weight on the balance scale (don't laugh). Krause supports it as does your en.numista.com. En.ucoin site states 16 gm for the D&E. Colnect states 15.5 gm. The worn 1809 example in the V&A is 15.19 gm. 2013 "The New York Sale" of an 1809 2G was 15.54 gm
I got my hands on a couple of quarter guilders recently - they appear the same as a threepence as a glance and are the same diameter. I will get them weighed soon.
The Demerara and Essequibo 1/4 guilder and British Guiana 1/4 guilder both weighed 1.91g which is around what the references say. They must be slightly thicker than a threepence as the the diameter appears the same.
