Hey friends, I’ve got three Imperial Roman coins up for grabs this week. No offers, please. I've marked these way down since there's no overhead here. Compare these to similar offerings on vcoins, Numismall, and eBay, and you'll see they're a bargain - I hope. :) Paypal, checks, money orders. PM me if interested. ALL PRICES INCLUDE SHIPPING IN THE US. 14-day returns, no hassles.

    3. Aurelian (214/215 - 275)
    AE Antoninianus, 22mm, 3.44g, 12h, Siscia Mint
Obv.: IMP AVRELIANUS AVG; Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right
Rev.: IOVI CONSERVATORI; Jupiter on right and facing left, presents globe to Aurelian opposite //star, Q
    Reference: RIC V(a) Aurelian 227 (p. 290)

These antoniniani of Aurelian are quite common, but this coin has a very solid strike on both sides - frequently the reverses are weak. It also exhibits smooth, clean surfaces and a rich brown-green patina - all around a great coin for the beginning collector or someone assembling the various types of Aurelian. A sizeable die chip on the reverse adds another element of interest (in exergue, between the star and Q). $17

This coin falls into the second period of minting under the authority of Aurelian - a reform that increased the weights of the antoniniani and improved the overall engraving style of the issues. The portrait of the emperor may be stylized and generic, but it is quite handsome. The legend reads IMP(ERATOR) AVRELIANVUS AVG(VSTVS), or “The Emperor Aurelian, Augustus.”

The reverse design features Jupiter handing a globe (the world) to the emperor. Both are holding sceptres, a sign of royalty, and Jupiter is naked, a common portrayal of the god in Roman culture. The inscription IOVI CONSERVATORI translates to “(dedicated to) Jove (Jupiter), the preserver.” The full phrase on other coins adds the word CAESS, meaning Jupiter is the preserver of the Caesars. The star and Q in exergue (under the reverse devices) are mint and control marks.
