This past week my wife and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary. I chose this coin as my anniversary present from her; a Trajan 'Bridge over the Danube' bronze having been long on my want list. I also thought it was kind of appropriate, since I see marriage as very much like building a bridge (and keeping it well-maintained). Yes, it's pretty rough and battered-up, but for what it is, I think those issues are minor. Uhm, talking about the coin there... Anyway, I do believe I received the better gift. I suspect a toaster is not the kind of wedding anniversary present most women will be bragging about to their friends . TRAJAN AE As 11.16g, 28.8mm Rome mint, AD 107-110 RIC 569; Cohen 543 O: IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V P P, laureate bust right, draped on left shoulder. R: S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI, arched, single-span bridge with seven posts across Danube River; single-bay arches at either end, surmounted by statues; boat moored below; SC in exergue.
A wonderful type. Happy anniversary! Um... did you really get her a toaster?! If so, I hope she directed you to buy it.
Yup, I'm not crazy... I was careful to clarify that the toaster was what she wanted, and that "toaster" did not have some other meaning I was not aware of .
Happy anniversary my friend. And a nice coin she got you. But a toaster? Even if my wife wanted a toaster, she wouldn't want it for an anniversary gift. But what do I know? I've only been married 48 years.
The last thing I need is another space-hog kitchen appliance, but a selfie toaster is tempting... Coin toast, anyone?
We decided some years back that practical, useful presents were the way to go. A coin's practical, right?
Happy anniversary @zumbly Very nice present you got there. Although my wife doesn't collect coins at all, I definitely think she would prefer a coin than a toaster as a present... Q
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! Be careful... It is a TRAP: Toaster... Appliance... Gift... Will there BE a "Next Year"???
Happy anniversary Z, great coin! My wife wanted a vacuum for our last anniversary, I kid you not. Of course, it was the thousand-dollar vacuum with space shuttle attachments, but still a vacuum.
A thousand dollar vacuum sounds excessive, but I realise that when your passion is for ancient coins, you don't go around questioning the predilections of others . Thanks for the well wishes, everyone!
LOVE that AS of Trajan and the Danube Bridge reverse!!! What a great anniversary gift!! A toaster??? Unless it was the 'TIF type' and one of at least two items I'm sure I would not be around posting this now LOL HAPPY ANNIVERSARY @zumbly !!!!
lol... amongst her many other virtues, Mrs z is a woman of simple needs. She just likes a good toast .
