Web forgery per firefox...

I was browsing eBay and clicked on a listing. When I scrolled down to see the larger scans, I encountered this:

This web page at vi.vipr.ebaydesc.com has been reported as a web forgery and has been blocked based on your security preferences.

Web forgeries are designed to trick you into revealing personal or financial information by imitating sources you may trust.

Entering any information on this web page may result in identity theft or other fraud.

I checked the other listings ending tonight from the seller and encountered the same thing. Are eBay sellers phishing?

Not necessarily - the seller's computer may have been hacked, and if he schedules auction-starts in advance, and went away for Labor Day, he may not even know.

 

I think it is wider spread than that. Tried several sellers, some even unactive and received the same message on firefox. I suspect worse case, a malice group all reported Ebay's app as phished to the firefox phish page and caused it.

 

That would explain all of his listings being flagged.

 

So does Firefox back-test, or just accept someone's accusations as fact? I've had Firefox about five years, and increasingly disenchanted with its lack of innovation, and its miserable FAIL with complicated navigation.

 

I clicked on the bottom right button asking 'Why was this page blocked' and it directed me to a page full of possibilities. I was too tired to read any of them.

 

Ten years ago while I was in China some one hacked my e-bay account and offered a motorcycle on it. E-bay caught it, blocked it, and sent me a note. I didn't find out about it until I got back. E-bay and I tried to get it re-opened for months, but could not. I had to start over. Strange.

 

I'm about ready to ditch Firefox and go to Chrome . Does anyone have any suggestions other than Chrome ?

 

I am thinking of switching from chrome to opera. May have to get back after I try it a bit.

We(the whole usa) have been under constant web-based attack since before Fleabay and the rest started up.The Chinese/Russkies and all the rest have state-sponsored hacking groups numbering in the millions never mind the freelancers out there so trust no one online be suspicious of any/all things that look "off" compared to normal just like coins that look "wrong" and you won't get burned.I bit on a piece of "clickbait" myself recently and had to cancel my c/card before they ran the tab sky high!

Been using FireFox since forever and have never had a problem.
What exactly are complicated navigations ?

 

I am with Steve. I have been with Firefox from the very early days of Netscape.

 

By that I mean (for instance) selecting text that is interrupted by images and ads and tables and excerpted pdf's, Firefox does not handle this well, and it takes forever, even though it is the current trend to serve up a real dog's breakfast in one's articles. The Washington Post is an exception, wonderful simplicity.

 

I use chrome and like it. Every 3 months have the computers cleaned and updated by a professional that knows much more than me. Still have some problems but minimal.

But all not to fret because I just had a very Nigerian Prince contact me randomly, who's uncle died with millions in the bank, and they need a little help here in the USA to transfer funds. So I'm set.

 

Appears that Ebay has worked something out, no longer getting that warning on firefox.

 

IMO, Explorer needs to be buried. Windows 10 includes a new browser, Edge, that's supposed to be pretty good. Don't know if it's backward compatible with earlier versions of Windows.

 

Sticking with Firefox. Use a nice anti malware service, and Avast!
