And it sure is odd to me to watch common Morgan’s going at $60.00-$80.00.

    Current melt values are madness.

Yeah…. I know that’s the root of it. Sure seems otherworldly to me. I don’t watch active auctions. I have the personality defect that gets me into bidding wars. But this one has some coins I REALLY want.

Thanks Dave. There are some deep pockets budding this deal. Scares me.

Just watched a rather mundane appearing proof Indian head cent go from $80.00 to $875.00 in the blink of an eye.

Odds are that at least a couple of bidders able to grade accurately may have viewed these coins in person, and may know more than others. I can't remember that last time I saw folks who didn't know what they were doing paying way over for coins at auction. Typically, the beginners stay at retail and below, and those in the know are the ones who regularly weigh risk / reward and bid over the top, but they do so very selectively . . . not across the board.

If the prices realized are laughable for all lots, and not just for selected lots, there may be a couple of idiots with deep pockets, but if the super high prices are for select lots, there are probably a few good snipers in the crowd.

I am going to swing hard on an XF 1803 bust half and an 1851-C dollar. Should be coming up before long.

Randy, I hope you’re not into this thing real heavy. These pictures are throwing up red flags for me. I’m no expert by any means, but my spidey senses are telling me that half has problems.

Not as heavy as I was willing to go. I agree. There are some concerns but it was high grade enough for me to want her. She is a gamble!
