Does anyoone know of a Washington quarter after 1964 that is made of silver? Not the new statehood ones, but a 1970's quarter. I will try to post pics soon. I have a quarter that makes the same noise as a quarter is pre 1965. Is there a way to verify by wieght or some other means to see if this is an anomily? I realize that the "sound" is not a reliable test, but it caught my attention in my pocket. Thanks...
The first thing you need to do is get a precise weight. A silver quarter weighs 6.2 grams while a clad quarter weighs 5.67 grams.
also look on the edge of that quarter. if you see the classic "sandwich" then its not a silver quarter
What are the values like for the silver Washington Quarters? Say about $95 in face with about $80 in BU condition?
unless your BU coins are really high-grade examples and you get them graded or you have double dies, RPMs or other stuff, just silver value. 1930-40's BU's might be worth a bit more, but that's about it. silver in them is worth $2.09 each.
Could be the silver version of a bicentennial quarter that would have been in a set. I sometimes find them in circulation. Bill
Read this... If it is really silver and isn't a 1976 Bic Quarter then it would be worth alot more than $2.09. Speedy
I have heard of a 1965 Quarter that was accidently struck on a Silver 64 planchet! Is this a true statement?
Quite true. There are 1965 quarters struck on 90% silver planchets and 1964 quarters struck on Cu-Ni clad planchets. These "transitional errors" are worth somewhere around $10,000 in uncirculated condition.
