If you had to choose one or the other to collect, which would you choose, would you choose the Washington quarter or the Barber quarter?

I chose Barber because they're all silver. These games your playing lonegunlawyer are tough because I like Washington's eagle better than Barber's...maybe.

Between just those two quarter types? Then I'd have to say the Barber. Why? Well, as Jwt708 mentioned all of them are silver and I don't have any. I have a lot of Washington quarters. So for me, Barber it is.

Hah hah. I'm in the "Loser's Bracket."

That said, here's my reason for choosing to collect Washingtons:

From my experience, the Barber halves are gorgeous coins and relatively easy to find in higher grades. The quarters are exceptionally tough to find in even mid-grades here. That said, the Washington coins are tough to find early dates in high-grade, but everything is available if you wait/look in mid-grade. Those, coupled with the fact that it's a constantly evolving series (including state/park/monument/territory quarters), mean that the Washington series provides affordable fun and many hours of investigating for all ages.

Those are very good reasons to pick Washington.

Washington only lost by one vote against Jefferson. In fact, he was leading most of the way. However, I think Lehigh marshaled the Jefferson troops to pull out the win.

Washingtons are available in pocket change.

You can learn a lot by looking at lots of the coins you collect and you can look at as many Washingtons as you want.

I think the classic Silver Washington Quarter has taken a back-seat to many other designs through out the years and is a little neglected in the collecting community. It has a strong relief, beautiful Eagle reverse and honors the greatest patriot of all time! Plus the snafu over Laura Gardin Fraser better design adds intrigue! :)

A lot of views, but where are the votes? Come on people, if you had to make a choice, what would it be?

classic Washingtons can be a real challenge to grade. Between Franklin Halves and Washington Quarters, I don't know which is more difficult to grade correctly

I don't own any Barber quarters, but personally I like them more for some reason.

Franklins... I've never seen large coins with such "iffy" issues with definition on rub v weak-strike. I can see how a lot of MS-63 Franklins might be seen as AU-53. I don't really see that with Washingtons.

It's neck and neck. Vote if you haven't.

Washington Quarter since they are more readily available not to mention the fact that I like the design a bit more than the flat Barber Obverse design. It makes Liberty look like a guy.

I have been a member of this forum for over 4 years now. And with the lone exception of WashQuartJesse, I can't recall anyone ever posting a Washington Quarter unless they were asking about the mintmark of a 32-D or 32-S. Seems like we have a lot of closet Washington collectors.

My collection is currently still very small, but I'll have to post up what I have...
