Just wondering what everyone thinks of this quarter.

Is it just a beat up quarter or some kind of error.

The quarter is smaller than a normal quarter but larger than a nickel and there is no reeded edge.

    Any help is appreciated.

Either heavily used in slot/vending machines, or more likely an aborted early stage spoon job.

At first thought, I was think that it might be a Quarter struck on a Nieckel planchet. However, due to the smallness of "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and them being compressed against the Eagle's wings, then I believe that it either some sort of compression job or a poor attempt at a Counterfeit! I am leaning highly toward the former, using some sort of compression to the rim but at the same time, the coin really has the appearance of a Countefeit.

    Thank you for the replies.

It did just look beat up to me but thought I would get some other opinions.

I also have a quarter that almost exactly resembles the one you own. I stumbled across your post while searching for information on the coin. Sadly this was the only forum I could find discussing this odd quarter. As you also stated the quarter is smaller than a normal quarter, and has no reeded edge. If anyone has additional information on this coin, let me know!
