Anybody ever seen a George Washington $25 gold coin? I saw one at a local auction but was under lock and key so I could only see one side. I did not buy it but was curious as to its origins. One side has an image of Washington with the Capitol in the left background. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Based on your description it sounds like some kind of gold round made by a private mint. It's possible it's a commem coin issued by a foriegn nation, but I've not heard of one like it.

Did it look like a modern coin or something colonial?
