I've been planning to start a Mercury Dime collection for awhile but I've been putting it off. I wanted to go with lower grade coins and upgrade over time. Tonight I picked up a Whitman Folder with 72 different dates, excluding the 1916-D, 1921, 1921-D for $98.55. I don't think I got a "deal" but I paid a fair price. Plus I'm happy about the purchase which is most important :eating:.

You paid just $5 above the spot price of silver which would be $93-$94

If the coins are problem free, I'd say you did well...if they are not, you still did fine as you didn't pay much over spot.

  6. I agree with the others so far: Good deal! I also like your plan to upgrade the set over the years. Should be a fun endeavor. TC

Not bad, a little over $1.36.75 each not including shipping. You did good in my book!! I have a page of mercury dimes that are fully circulated and they are beauties. I have them in a binder page and they're in 2x2 flips. good for you!

Actually the price is dependant on the condition of thoes coins. And although people keep saying spot, it is not easy to get so called spot for anything. Now although you didn't get the 16D, 21 and 21D, you sound like you did get the 26S. Note that one alone goes for about $15 in G4 to VG8. The 31D is a real sleeper too since it is the 4th lowest Minted coin in the series. Then too the 30S and the 31S are all in the one million area of mintages. With the growing population of our country, now 300,000,000 and lots and lots becoming coin collectors, even 1% of them exceeds the quantity of lots of your coins.
Please check carefully on the 42D just in case it is the 42D/41. A really tuff one to spot and is missed by many. Is your 45S a Micro S? And watch for those rotated reverses too.
I'd say you really did OK.

You can never go wrong buying Mercs! If any of the semi-key dates mentioned in the previous posts are at least in "GOOD" condition, you did well. But my personal preferance is to build a collection a few at a time. I've been doing it for over twenty years with Lincoln cents.
