    Hi,

Was the American Eagle coin only minted in Philadelphia?

Why is the face value of an American Eagle only $1? There is like $7.50 worth of silver in it, right?

If someone could like me to a site about the American Eagle I would appreciate it too. I've been searching for sites with good information but none of them talk about where they are minted and how many were made.

    Thanks,

    Nathan

The American Eagle dollar has been minted from 1986 until the present, and is still in production. From 1986 through 1992, business strikes were minted in Philadelphia and proofs were minted in San Francisco. In 1993 and 1994, both proofs and business strikes were minted in Philadelphia. In 1995, business strikes were minted in Philadelphia with proofs being struck at the Philadelphia and West Point mints. The West Point mintage is the more valuable. From 1996-1999, business strikes and proofs were once again minted only at Philadelphia. For 2000 and 2001, business strikes were produced at the West Point mint with proofs being struck in Philadelphia. In 2002, both proofs and business strikes were produced at the West Point mint. I believe the West Point mint is still producing both strikes. Here is a link:

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you for the information.

I was listing 4 BU American Eagles all different years and you can enter the mint for the coin you are selling. Since my 4 coins come from different mints I had to leave that section blank. I was originally thinking they were all Philadelphia.

The Silver American Eagle is a nice coin but I just don't like the boxes they come in. I'd rather have them in a Dansco Album.

Many agree with you Nate. I only have one question for you. How do you get them in the book without touching the surface and therefor lowering the numismatic value?
