Was Strike Doubling Common in the 1930'S?

I just found a 1936 Wheat cent while CRHing the other day that shows doubling on the date. There is a 1936 Doubled die shown in the Cherrypickers Guide, but this one shows more of a spread. Was Strike Doubling or Die Deterioration a "thing" back then? I'll try to post a photo to see what you think.

    Mercury Dimes were especially prone
to MD - seems like 50% of 'em have it
on the date area alone !

Yes, MD or Strike Doubling was 'common'
    back then.
