    Hey friends,

checking in on this as it is outside of my wheelhouse. Going through a coin collection for a friend passed down and found this - thoughts? Potential die cud?

We would need larger Pics please. On initial view, looks like rim damage.

None of the extra metal touches the rim so not a cud. Heavy wear minimizes numismatic interest and corresponding inherent value.

Theory: The extra metal may be leftover solder from an attempt at a jewelry piece. If so, this would also detract from its’ appeal.

I agree with surface alteration. Your coin was once worn as a pin. The pin mechanism has since fallen off.

Not a mint error of any kind unfortunately.
    No cuds, die breaks.. nothing.

    Still worth silver melt.

At one time that coin was a piece of jewelry. Now it just spot pricing for value.

I'm guessing it was originally mounted like this.

Yes before I read the comments I assumed that gob of metal is because this was
    on a piece of jewelry.
