I've been wanting to add a nice Walking Half to my collection for awhile and I came across this 1947-D PCGS MS65 for a decent price. Do you think those black, whispy marks on the obverse are exaggerations from a poor picture or do you think they really look like that?
Tough to say, but the pics look like scans, which makes interpreting surfaces and toning more complicated. That said, the marks/toning look distracting to my eye -- and they are on the obverse -- and I would likely shy away from the coin for these reasons.
You are correct about the JJ coin. WOW, you're good! When you say "they" you mean the marks or the coins that that company regularly sells?
I have a '47 & 47d in ms65. I wouldn't get that one. if you save a few bucks now but don't really like the coin later on you'll wish you hadn't bought it. been there learned that.
Thanks guys. Im sure I can find an MS65 sight seen at a coin show for a good price. Im going to pass on the coin.
Looks like either light grease marks struck on the coin or perhaps luster grazes. Either way, the scan makes it look bad.
