I just bought this Walker raw.

I looked closely at the 'S' and it seems slightly tilted downwards. Then I looked at other 'S' Walkers in my Whitman folder and those marks seem more level. This one also seems smaller than some other mintmarks. (Though there does appear to be some variation on this score) Is it my imagination or is this 'S' fine? Thanks for any and all responses.

It is natural to have some variation in mint mark placement since they were punched into the dies by hand. But instead of looking at all other S mint coins you need to be looking at examples of that particular date - which we do not know yet.

Good point, and I've done that (this was a 1941 BTW). Seems the mintmarks on a lot of the 41s do point downward slightly and are a bit smaller. So I think this is okay. Thanks.

I just looked at my circulated 1941-S and it looks very much like yours.

1941-S Does have a repunched mint mark variety FS-50-1941s-501 but I cannot tell from that image if it looks the same as what is in the book.
