Completed but not finished with a lot of updates to do. Replacing circulated with B.U. as I go along. Key coins 1921 all in Fine 15, with many B.U. added in last year. Sharing. Last reverse page not here do to file limitations.
Congratulations! Nice 16-D and 38-D as well. Those are much tougher coins than the should be. I wonder how many of them went into the melting pot over the years.
Big congrats on completing the series, I am not even close. I do not have any in BU, just one in AU. The only rarer date I have as a 1916d Obverse mint mark, I got it for $10 on Ebay. I found 32 walking liberties in September (every year from 1934-1947 not all mint marks, and two 1917p) in a supermarket cashier's tray. Long story short, she was loading a self checkout station, I walk by and see a silver edge in the quarter section, I ask if I can buy it, she says, "Sure, It looks like a 90% silver quarter, my father had some of them" Then she says, "I have $16 worth of silver halves, do you want them, they have been sitting in the tray for months" Since then she has been saving all interesting money for me, including a few 40% silver halves too.
I'm surprised, most people who knew that they were silver would not give them away. She said some guy was using the Coinstar and got annoyed because his coins would not go through. So the cashier gave him $16 and put them in the main service desk tray. Months went by and most of the people there were very annoyed because they were taking up space in their draw and they had too count them every night before closing. They were at that point ready to throw them out the window, then I came and everyone was relieved (I was beyond relieved)
I'm thinking about cleaning the 17S & 18S, not much to lose as they were gifts from my grandmother when I was quite young and they are about Fines w/o the dark matter. Some are going to be tough to upgrade like the 29D & S. My Peace Dollar collection only requires the 1928 but I want that key in BU also. This collection is my gift to my son when I pass so I want him to have a least one classic series of the best coins I can acquire. Only missing the 1909VDB-S in my cent collection. And the 21P & D in my Merc series. It's been a long road but well worth the trip.
I agree, that may help just remove the gunk but not disturb the coins surface much. They look like there are a lot of details which could be seen better. Good luck! And again, congrats on completing the set, and I hope you find the right upgrades.
Sure, but it's relatively flat as you go up in grade. By the time you get to AU53 or so, the 34-S leaves it in the dust. As others have said, that's a fine set of Walkers! I'd love to have a trio of 1921s that nicely matched.
@tommyc03 this is fantastic! How long did this set take? And where did you pic up the majority of them...ebay, LCS...?
