Since the announcement of the W quarters people have been buying boxes of quarters and it seems in my area that the old 1965-1998 clad quarters are back out in full force, is it the case in your area?
This is going to drive the banks crazy, and I wouldn't be surprised if more and more of them don't start implementing surcharges for people wanting boxes (if they haven't already). For that matter, they may even deny them to customers, altogether, unless they have a commercial account. And, don't give me that BS about not dumping coins at the bank where you order them. They all have to go to a bank somewhere. For all you know, your next-door neighbor could be dumping them at your bank. Chris
Honestly, I think whoever came up with the idea of "salting" P&D bags with "W" quarters at the Mint should be shot. It is the biggest bonehead mistake the Mint has ever made because it will put undue pressure on the banks trying to satisfy their customers needs. Chris
I'm glad it will give tellers something to do, since so many banks are pushing people to using ATMs instead of human tellers. Thank god the Mint is helping to save physical banking. But in reality, hardly anyone coin collects, so this will make very little difference in anything.
Is this really a problem? I don't CRH so it's an honest question. Outside of coin forums, most people I know aren't even aware of 2019-W quarters, let alone lining up at the bank trying to get one. But it's possible I just haven't been paying attention.
Exactly my thought.... Sure I am a coin nut. And yes I would love to have one show up in my change. But reallly???? My life is hectic enough twelve hours a day to add this kind of lunacy to it. Who really has this kind of time on their hands?
You will next month so get to your bank and stock up on rolls and bags. Soon you'll have plenty of extra time. Laughing with you, not at you @Randy Abercrombie
Now that one had me laughing out loud.... And here I am in my office supposed to be maintaining a boss-like demeanor. That was funny as heck...
Most people weren't aware of the State Quarter program, either, and that attracted 10 million new collectors to the hobby. Chris
Personally, I haven't been hunting for the W quarters. If I get one, fantastic, if not, oh well. They aren't that common anyways, so some people carrying boxes of quarters from their banks may only find D mintmarks. Congratulations to anyone who found a W so far, but I have yet to see one.
There was another on found.......It is for sale on great collections and bid up to $3,533.00 with 10 days left! https://www.greatcollections.com/coin/700841
I just checked my change from Subway (the sandwich place). All I got was a lousy 1976 bicentennial quarter in pretty good condition, and some rare zincoln mint parking lot error (i've never seen one quite exactly like this one) that I cannot make out the date, and can barely make out that it's a cent. Where's my W quarter ?!?!
By 'customers needs' I sincerely hope you're referring to local merchants who receive weekly amounts of rolled coin for their businesses and not the sudden influx of wild eyed treasure hunters hoping to score the little 'w' and flip it for a profit
Meow does have that kind of time on Meow's paws. But not really enough money to get the quantity of coins Meow wants.
